The continuous implementation of the Integrated Cardaba Banana Project now serves as additional income to the members of the LUABAG Surigao. The initial 15-hectare pilot site was already completely planted and is currently undergoing harvesting. To date, a total of 3,527 bunches have already been harvested as part of the first cropping and another 215 bunches are now on its second cropping.
In 2008, aside from focusing on producing a bountiful and disease-free harvest, orientations and trainings on both technical and organizational-related issues were conducted to equip the farmers with the necessary knowledge, skills and attitude to manage the project. The orientations included basic information on Cardaba Banana farming, handling, maintenance and disease and pest-control, banana chips making and marketing among others. Technical trainings are done regularly during site visits by the Project Manager / Banana Specialist. The actual farm visits and handson demonstrations provided the farmers the necessary management skills to make the banana farms a success. The Project Team, with the help of LMC, continued to actively get involved in networking with possible buyers of the bananas.
LMC continuous to closely coordinate and consult with the concerned city, municipal and barangay LGUs as well as other sectors in the communities. LMC representatives made courtesy calls to the leaders in the communities, attended municipal and barangay sessions, and participated in formal and informal community meetings. The meetings served as venue to introduce LMC and present its policies and programs to the local people. Mining issues and concerns were likewise discussed and clarified extensively during the meetings.
Community immersion by the Community Relations Group continued to be the main strategy in developing awareness and building good relationships with the local communities.
Environmental Management

LMC established a mini nursery for the falcatta seedlings which are being utilized for the rehabilitation work.
